آخرین جمله، حاوی یک کلاز نتیجه thus + -ing است. چنین کلازهایی می تواند جایگزین بهتری از کانکتورهای سنتی مانند therefore و as a result خواهد بود. این دو جمله را با هم مقایسه کنید:
(1) The magma flows into the pores of the rocks; as a result, the rocks rupture.
- The magma flows into the pores of the rocks, thus causing them to rupture.
(2) A current is sent through the material. As a result, the electrons are polarized.
- A current is sent through the material, thus polarizing the electrons.
در این ساختارها به جای thus می توانید از thereby استفاده کنید. همچنین به این نکته توجه کنید که thus در این ساختار کاملا اختیاری بوده و می توانید آن را حذف کنید:
