Hair today, gone tomorrow!
Jackie: we're talking about hair.
Richard: Or the lack of it.
Jackie: Richard, do you worry a little bit about the fact that your hair is thinning?
Richard: Not really. I don't worry about it. I have to say it does look... it could look a lot better, I have to say, but I'm not really too bothered.
Jackie: And your hair is short now. [Richard: Yes] Have you always had short hair? Did you go through a period when you were younger of having longer hair?
Richard: Yes. When I was a teenager we had some strict rules at school where you weren't allowed to have long hair at the back, you weren't allowed to have your hair longer than your collar, the collar of your shirt.
Richard: So I had a really long fringe which went right down to the end of my nose. [laughs]
Jackie: Have you got any photos of that?
Richard: I don't think I have. Now Jackie, ever since I've known you, you've had very long hair, haven't you?
Jackie: Yeah, yeah.
Richard: And are you happy with the changes in your hair?
Jackie: It's funny because I think when I was in my thirties when I had my very first grey hair, I panicked a little bit and didn't like the idea of losing my natural colour but, you know, nowadays I don't care.
Richard: Well, when I first met you, you were ginger [Jackie laughs] you were, you were a red head, weren't you?
Jackie: I used to dye my hair.
Richard: I didn't know that, did I? Until a long time afterwards.
Jackie: Yeah. No I don't mind having natural coloured hair now and slowly going grey. I think it's nice.
Richard: Yes, I don't have problems with you going grey either actually.
Jackie: Now, Richard, did you know that the global hair care market, right, so around the world, is worth E60 billion.
Richard: Six zero billion pounds?
Jackie: Yes. Well, some people spend a lot of money on shampoo, on going to the hairdressers and all sorts of products.
Richard: Mmm, that's true. Not us though.
Jackie: How much do we spend on a bottle of shampoo?
Richard: Um... is it about three or four Euros a bottle?
Jackie: And also we share that, we don't have male shampoo and female shampoo.
Richard: Just the one bottle of shampoo and also a bottle of conditioner which you use, don't you?
Jackie: Yeah. Now Richard, also, you have to confess, how often do you go to the hairdresser's?
Richard: Nowadays, never. I have my personal hairdresser in the house.
Jackie: Yes, and you don't pay me. [both laugh]
Richard: You don't have much to cut though, do you?
Jackie: No, that's true and I... I've never been very keen on going to the hairdressers so I don't think we're very typical.
Richard: No, well when we get older I don't think you bother too much about your hair.
Jackie: Maybe we should bother more, Richard.
Richard: We don't get out much.
Jackie: What about you the listeners? How much do you spend on your hair? Is it a really big thing? Do you worry about it? would you like something different?
Richard: Or are you like us, you just let it all hang out?
